Navicast is developed and maintained by Barsark AB, Sweden's oldest internet video company and a global pioneer in the online video market. The company was founded in 1997 under a different name that was changed to Barsark AB in 1999. Barsark works under the motto “innovation, creativity and dedication” and the founder Erik Fohlin is still the driving force behind the company.

The first embryo of Navicast was developed in 1999 and used for both live and on demand broadcasts of the Dalarna County Council meetings during 2000. After some further developments it was also used by the Stockholm County Council during 2001 and 2002. Navicast 1.0 was released to the open market in mid 2002. The first non Swedish client was the Saddleback Valley Unified School District in California, USA in 2003. In 2004 we were rewarded with an Apple Design Award for a global Navicast powered freesport video service. Today Navicast is used by clients all over Scandinavia, the European Union and the USA.

Barsark AB is privately founded, privately held, debt free and profitable since the start without any venture capital. This gives us an edge over our competitors since we can focus on our products, clients and services instead of short term goals, quarterly results and investors ROI.
